Solex Robotics is pleased to announce that Maverick was selected as one of the
Top 100 Inventions in the World for the Year 1999.

Chicago, June 30, 1999 - R&D Magazine has selected the developers of the Maverick inspection robot to receive one of its  prestigious 1999 R&D 100 Awards.  Since first established in 1963, the annual R&D 100 awards, "the Nobels of New Technology," have been presented to the top 100 most outstanding technology developments with commercial potential for each year.  The winning technologies are selected from an array international entries and judged by an independent panel of  70 experts from the disciplines and fields of science, engineering, education and technology commercialization.

Senator Mike Crapo congratulates
Solex Engineers on R&D100 Award

Maverick is a submergible robotic system that has proven in recent inspections that it can safely and successfully perform remote internal inspections of full aboveground storage tanks.  Developed by Solex Robotics and the Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, Maverick will greatly reduce the hazards to workers and decrease costs and environmental problems associated with inspecting AST's.

The robot is lowered into a full AST, where it uses specialized sensors and imaging systems to inspect the welded steel bottoms for signs of thinning or leaking, while being operated remotely by technicians outside of the tank.  The robot includes a multi-channel ultrasonic sensor array to map and correlate metal thickness data, an onboard video system to record inspections, and a sonar positioning system to track movement within the tank.

Maverick was designed with a safety first policy.  It is engineered for operations in tanks containing hazardous and non-hazardous materials, and has passed the rigorous requirements for Class I, Division 1, Group D environments.

Senator Larry Craig  (Idaho) smiles at the success of
Solex Robotics and the award-winning Maverick
